Pieces of a woman Reviews
So far, 7 of the 8 reviews published on the rotten tomatoes website have been positive. The film received a 88% rating in rotten tomatoes, and 6.8/10 in IMDb and 73% in Metacritic.
Pieces of a Woman is grounded and intensely personal. Much of that is due to the towering and heartbreaking performance by Kirby.
Mundruczó and Wéber gave her the pieces from which to assemble this character, but only Kirby could have taken that puzzle and turned it into such an astonishing portrait.
After the implosive force of those first 30 minutes, the rest of the movie can’t help but feel like a self-defeating scavenger hunt through the rubble.
The Pieces of a Woman, which is actually an acting class, is a very impressive film in its own right. The main actors each do a good job of keeping the film going, but everything seems a bit too academic, organized, and like a sort of workshop. This situation is made even worse by the exaggerated music that falls on the listener after each heavy emotional exchange like a sledgehammer.
